Tzatziki Horseradish Sauce

This sauce is CRAZY good! There are so many uses for it with red meat. I’ve enjoyed it on Italian Roast Beef, Prime Rib and Steaks of all kinds. This is a unique sauce that will surely make your meal extra tasty.

Tzatziki (aka Tarator or Cacık) is a dip/sauce that comes from cuisines in Southeast Europe and the Middle East.  Usually comprised of strained yogurt and mixed with the likes of cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil, sometimes vinegar, lemon juice, and herbs like dill, mint, parsley and thyme.  You’ve probably most commonly enjoyed it on gyros but it can be a side dish or appetizer as well.

Tarator was the name of a dish made of ground walnuts and vinegar in the Ottoman Empire. Dishes of various preparations in the region, including dips, salads, and sauces, acquired the name. In the Levant, taratur is a sauce based on tahini, while in Turkey and the Balkans it came to mean a combination of yogurt and cucumbers, sometimes with walnuts. It has become a traditional part of meze. (Wikipedia)

This recipe is a variation of the original (add horseradish) and meant to be served with red meat, although I’m sure you’ll find more use for it!

  • 1 TSP – Red Pepper Flakes

  • 1/4 CUP – Finely chopped Chives

Notes & Prep

  • As with nearly all sauces, it is ideal to make this in advance so that all of the ingredients have the chance to activate and marry up. At least a couple hours in advance will do but the day before is the most ideal.
